If we want to follow JesusвЂ™ teaching, we have to become new ourselves. We canвЂ™t put JesusвЂ™ new teaching on our old selves because it wonвЂ™t work. He was saying that if we want to follow His teaching, we canвЂ™t be like that old piece of clothing. Instead, when you get a big enough hole in your shirt, you just need to get a new shirt.Д«ut Jesus wasnвЂ™t really talking about clothes.

So, as Jesus said, you canвЂ™ t put a new patch on an old piece of clothing. The patch will shrink and pull away from the shirt, kind of like you were trying to pull the rope away from the ends in our game, so youвЂ™ll still have a hole, and maybe even a worse hole than you started with. But what happens if you get a hole in your shirt, and you sew a patch, that hasnвЂ™t already shrunk, onto the shirt?

Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. вЂњNo one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. The goal of the team on either end is to keep the rope taught so that thereвЂ™s no slack in the middle.ДЄfter the first round, switch which team is on the ends and which is in the middle and play again. The goal of the team in the middle is to pull the ends of the rope to the middle. The second team holds the middle of the rope. The first team divides their members in half, taking each side of the rope.
